The purpose of having an office

Deep down, the purpose of having an office was being able to use some materials, have meetings, have a place to work, and… what else?
Now is different.
You already have the materials: laptop and cloud.
Meetings: are they truly important? Can you make them online? If not, there is always the possibility to arrange a physical meeting.
Having an office is not efficient. Today, you can work from anywhere in the world and you can do it with people you’ve never met before.
Why your employees have to be in your office? Is because they are more productive, or because you need to control them?
In the majority of the cases, offices won’t be required anymore. They are expensive and they don’t provide an unique value.
So, does the rent worth the money you pay for it?
