Chef vs. cook

There’s a big difference between being a cook or a chef.
A cook follows the rules. She doesn’t innovate or create art. She just follows a cookbook.
Chefs, on the other hand, are the ones writing those cookbooks. They innovate and create art. They don’t follow the standards, they create them. They define what the standard is, and then teach the competition how to follow it.
This is a critical lesson to learn.
Most companies are cooks. Few of them are chefs.
Most job hunters are cooks. Opportunity hunters are chefs.
Knowing where you stand is fundamental to make the leap and lead the competition.
