Imaging you’re in a boat in the middle of the ocean. There are dangerous sharks around, the waves are hitting you hard and there’s a hole in the boat. What would you do?
The hole is not so big, but you’ve got a couple of hours before it starts sinking.
Again, what would you do knowing that there’s no near shore and you can’t get into the water?
It’s simple. You’ve just got to figure out how to fix the boat and remove all the water that is inside.
Well, it seems obvious though. But day in and day out I see so many sinking boats where people don’t try to fix them. Instead they try to row harder to arrive to the nearest shore.
There are hundreds of companies out there sinking that row harder without even considering fixing the hole.
And not only companies, but people that don’t want to accept that the boat is sinking.
I could put hundreds of examples of sinking boats. But one that resonates the most is… I’m too busy to read a book.
And what they haven’t considered is that most of their problems coulf be solved by reading a book.
How can you possibly be to busy to read?
I always say this, but every time I say the most confident I feel about it: if you don’t read you are doomed to make the mistakes of the past.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. — George Santayana
Stop rowing harder and start fixing the damn boat.
