The first time I listened to Derek Sivers I said, wow, this guy is great. What I usually do when I like somebody is to read everything about that person. I read Derek’s book, all his posts, several interviews and a bunch of TED talks, and this guy is fascinating.
I discovered a talk he gave to first-year students at Berklee College of Music, and I wish I watched this video the day I started my degree.
These are the six points he talks about:
#1 : Focus. Disconnect. Do not be distracted.
#2 : Do not accept their speed limit.
#3 : Nobody will teach you anything. You have to teach yourself.
#4 : Learn from your heroes, not only theirs.
#5 : Don’t get stuck in the past.
#6 : When done, be valuable.
