Take ownership: "It's the algorithm" is not an option

If you go to any school, you can find that kids who haven’t done their homework come up with creative excuses. Sometimes too good for their age.
The most common and universal one? “My dog ate my homework”. Or consider kids who go a bit to far (most Wall Street folks did this as kids) saying “my grandma just died…”
However, adults can also get creative and end up making credible and powerful excuses. For example, consider tech giants like Google or Facebook.
“Oh, it’s the algorithm. We just want to make the world a better placeā€”it’s not our fault.”
Really? They wrote the algorithm, so is it that they don’t know what they’re doing? I don’t buy it.
What’s interesting here is that the bigger the problem the bigger the excuse. you can find excuses everywhere you look, especially in politics.
I believe it’s time for corporations and governments to start taking ownership of their actions and contribute to find a solution.
