Beach, books and ideas

One of the things I wanted to do as soon as I quit my job was this:
Just me, my books (Kindle today) and the sea.
When you go through a high workload routine is easy to lose your focus. You start diving into the day to day and in the end, you finish with a narrow vision of alternatives your business could have. And that’s why you need a reading holidays.
The first time I read about the reading holidays was in the book Hard Drive. Bill Gates was famous for taking two weeks holidays with a bunch of books, taking his time only to read as many books as possible. (The book says he usually stayed those 2 weeks in a private yacht—sea, sun and a bunch of books. That’s really cool.)
That’s what I’m doing right now. Well, I wish I’d be in my own yacht, but I’m doing the same in hidden spots in the beach. Just going through several books, and worrying about their application afterwards.
As Steven Johnson said in Where Good Ideas Come From you need to look for hunches, and connect patterns with your own thoughts.
It’s one of the best feelings in the world. You should try it.
